Winter’s austerity poignantly conjures the nostalgia and hope of spring. Simultaneously, with deep gratitude and pleasure, one notices the stark beauty of resiliency that is lambent in every perennial and evergreen’s journey of regeneration. It is the strongest expression of nagori - the intense beauty of the awareness that true giving begins when abundance dwindles.

The essence of a Japanese garden harks back to her native, pre-Buddhist Shinto roots, to an internalized garden where Nature is sacred. Time is an essential element of the Japanese garden design and elements are sometimes chosen to articulate exquisite beauty that is revealed decades later when the original design is scarcely recognizable. These gardens are reminders of our own divinity. Let us spend an afternoon together in quiet spaces woven into beauty through gentle acts of nature : the Japanese garden.
